Why Only Then?WHEN: June 8th 2009 I was at a wedding yesterday and heard many people get up and give the bride and groom marital advice. There was only one problem with the advise they were giving... Here is how the wedding reception encouragement would go. "I am so happy for you and wish you all the best. One advise for you is to live life with happiness. And if things get hard and tough, turn to God and he will help you." Everyone clapped and nodded their head. But I thought to myself, thats the exact OPPOSITE of what you should be doing. Now why is it that we only want to turn to God when things suck? Its like saying, "If you're house ever catches on fire, turn to your insurance agent and he will help get things back together." Do you ever have a friend that calls ONLY because he is moving? I hate that. Any time I get a phone call from that friend is because he is either moving or really needs something. I have totally come to resent that friendship (if you can even call it that). I think that God wants to be invited to the marriage (and all our lives). We assume that happiness and enjoyment is OUR responsibilty and our mess and catastrophe is God's responsibilty. That's a raw deal for God huh? Talk about tiring too! I think our approach should be "Make God the center of your life and he will guide you through any challenge that comes your way." I dont want to be that whinny voice down on earth that calls out to God every 6 weeks when my life is coming apart. I want God to be very familiar with my voice. I want God to be very familiar with every part of my life.
